So it’s a week until London – indeed the world – looks to British designers for the inaugural London Collections: Men and I can’t think of any better way to start the Style Cupid countdown than salivating over Jonathan Saunders men’s collection for AW12.
When it comes to womenswear, Saunders is THE British designer of the moment – known for his exquisitely wearable use of prints, textures, patterning and colour – and it seems that he’s translating his signature over to menswear seamlessly.
The entire collection has a distinctly retro 70’s vibe, with sun-bleached patterned printed shirts, t-shirts, marled blazers, delightfully knitted jumpers, all set off against tailored trousers in tones of burgundy, baby brown and pastel peach.
The "Jarvis Cocker" printed shirts in particular have an almost mod-like quality that i'm loving...
And the lattice padded “trainspotter” coats I’m also a bit obsessed with (where's my coffee flask??).
It's all kind of got a "vintage Geography teacher on a school trip in an ever so slightly utilitarian way" feel to it - but in that Wes Anderson kind of sepia chic way. Love it all and can not wait to the the SS13 collection!
